SimpliPhi and AccESS Turn Heads at Intersolar North America 2017
In San Francisco at Intersolar North America this July, the SimpliPhi team was busy for a third year in a row speaking on panels, taking interviews from journalists and meeting with new and existing customers.
The head-turner of our booth was the AccESS fully-integrated energy storage system. Available on the market less than a year, the plug-and-play system has already been installed at locations in California, Hawaii, the East Coast and more.
“People continue to be genuinely interested in learning more about the AccESS,” said Jordan Little, SimpliPhi Applications Engineer. “They like that it makes the installation of energy storage easy and straight-forward for any solar installer. We spoke to people from countries with very intense climates like Costa Rica, Chile, the Congo and Zambia. For them, the fact that the AccESS and any SimpliPhi product can be installed outside and withstand harsh heat was a significant advantage for them. ”
One of our more notable AccESS installations to date is at the Stone Edge Farm Microgrid project in Sonoma, California, which was also featured on the official Intersolar Solar Winery and Microgrid Tour. In addition, SimpliPhi has a bank of PHI 3.4 batteries installed in the attic of the Zen building at the farm. These are the only batteries installed in any of the Stone Edge Farm buildings because they do not pose the risk of fire due to the inherent safety of Lithium Iron Phosphate chemistry combined with the proprietary architecture and management built into all of SimpliPhi Power’s battery designs.
This microgrid showcases how engineers and students from around the world are researching how to build self-sufficiency and resiliency with distributed generation and storage assets for uninterrupted power to support all the farm’s extensive operations.
Additionally, at the show Little spoke about the technical benefits of SimpliPhi batteries and their Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry in two sessions at the ees North America conference co-located and co-organized by Intersolar. On Tuesday of that week, she covered Lithium Ion Battery Innovation: Moving to Cobalt-Free Chemistry to Increase Safety, Reliability and Lifecycle of Energy Storage. The following day her talk focused on Technological Advancements Driving Energy Storage Deployment and Maximizing ROI.
“Many solar installers are still attempting to figure out how to offer energy storage along with their existing solar installation services, and they come to these panels eager to learn all they can,” continued Little. “In my talks I covered information a lot about how to understand the differences between lithium-ion battery chemistries, what to look for, and why these differences matter in both the performance and cost of a battery system. system. The idea that you can install a lithium n energy storage system that can be non-toxic and not prone to fire really resonated with people.”
