Join Us for the SimpliPhi Power Storage On/Off Grid Optimization Workshop at SPI 2015
Solar Power International (SPI) 2015 in Anaheim, Calif., is right around the corner. The SimpliPhi team is looking forward to seeing you there at booth #7505 in the Smart Home Pavilion and at our FREE September 17th workshop.
The ‘SimpliPhi Power Energy Storage On/Off Grid Optimization: Commercial, Residential & Remote’ workshop will be held from 10:00am – 12:00pm in Room 207C. From mobile and remote applications to residential and commercial systems, attendees will learn about in-the-field case studies of SimpliPhi power storage and management systems presented alongside some of our systems integrators, such as Jaron Rothkop of ZeroBase Energy, Jeevan Goff of Lotus Energy and Doug Wicks of Schneider Electric.
The workshop is open to all SPI registrants at no extra cost. Click here to reserve your spot now. Case studies to be presented at the workshop include:
Los Angeles Department of Water & Power: Off grid remote environmental monitoring stations. ZeroBase Energy worked with the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) to develop off grid remote environmental monitoring stations. LADWP’s monitoring has a mandate for 100 percent uptime in an environment too harsh for fuel generators to operate reliably. ZeroBase provided a solution using SimpliPhi Power energy storage to meet LADWP’s requirements for reliability, ease of installation and maintenance, and the ability to be quickly relocated.
S. Army & Marine Corp Requirements: For reliable expeditionary power 24/7, Nicaragua. Another case study to be presented is how the U.S. Army & Marine Corps provided reliable expeditionary power 24-hours a day, seven days a week in Nicaragua. The U.S. Army’s Rapid Equipping Force (REF) initiated its Energy to the Tactical Edge effort, known as E2E, to mitigate the inherent risks associated with living on small combat outposts and forward operating bases. E2E focused on reducing troops’ reliance on fuel resupply operations and decreasing the soldier load burden. The REF deployed a variety of ZeroBase systems that included SimpliPhi energy storage to forward positions where they reduced or eliminated fuel consumption, eliminated generator reliability issues and freed up manpower previously dedicated to fueling and maintaining generators.
Maui Brewing Company, Hawaii: Off grid power for EV charging stations. In Hawaii, Maui Brewing Company wanted to reduce its dependence on utility power and move to a more sustainable footprint at its new brewery and restaurant in Kihei. While waiting for the utility interconnection study and approval, ZeroBase installed an off-grid Solar PV system supported by a 100 kWh SimpliPhi energy storage system. The off grid system allowed several circuits to be switched immediately to clean power.
Meanwhile, on the residential front, Lotus Energy will share an award-winning home in upstate New York, which is fully automated and all-electric, with integrated PV, energy storage and a generator. The system fulfills the customer’s desire for a high-tech residence to be fully functional and self-sustaining in the event of a long-term (weeks or months) grid failure. Additionally, the house was designed to offset all electric bill costs using net metering to the utility grid. Lotus Energy first installed 25 kW of SunPower solar PV modules, a Quad SMA Sunny Island battery backup inverter system and a bank of 48 SimpliPhi Power batteries. In the event the solar system cannot produce enough power, a backup 25 kW Generac oil-fueled generator kicks in. By smartly managing these three energy sources – grid, solar PV and generator – the system can provide ultra reliable power to operate the entire home, including geothermal heating, water pump, refrigeration, lighting, electric Tesla vehicle, communications, security and automation with projected net-zero annual energy usage from the utility.
Through these case studies, attendees will have the opportunity to learn, directly from integrators, how to design hybrid power solutions for a wide variety of applications. Attendees will come to understand how SimpliPhi power management systems require no heat mitigation, offer 98 percent efficiency and 100 percent depth of discharge and a 10-year warranty. The lightweight form factor seamlessly integrates with all industry standard inverter charge controllers and is both modular and scalable to serve any need, large or small.
