We love talking to our Elite IQ Installers and asking them questions about their pioneering work in the renewable energy industry.

Our July 2021 Featured Elite IQ Installer is Ron Holland of Solar Technology Alabama. The electrical engineer discusses his experience working for a utility company, why he feels called to work in clean energy, common installation requirements, and more.

1. How long have you been in business and what type of installations do you typically do?

12 years.  We do all things solar, including grid-tied, solar water heating, and solar water pumping.  But the largest part of our business is off-grid solar systems, all of which include batteries.

2. What motivates you to work in clean energy?

I’m an electrical engineer and worked for an electric utility company for 20 years.  I don’t dislike electric utilities, but I don’t like dependence on any large corporation.  I’m in my 10th year living off-grid and I think it is my calling to help others break their dependence on purchased power.

3. What are some of the most common installation requirements for your customers that need energy storage?

95% of my customers live in grid-connected houses.  They are all interested in being more independent and self-sustaining, and access to a reliable power system is essential.  They all need water, hot water, and power.  The sun is capable of providing all of these independently.

4. What is your favorite project involving SimpliPhi Batteries?

I’m not sure I have a favorite project.  They are all unique and I’m always thrilled to see the customer’s reaction to the initial demonstration of their new power system.  Here is an example of one such system that brought a memorable smile to two faces.

5. Share some interesting feedback you have gotten from customers regarding energy storage installations.

The consistent feedback I get is how relieved my customers are now that they own and control the utilities that ensure their comfort and security.

6. What are some tips and tricks you have for other SimpliPhi Elite IQ installers?

This is likely the most difficult question in this list. Elite IQ installers are already familiar with how well SimpliPhi batteries integrate with existing quality inverters. They know the strong selling points of lithium over other battery chemistries. And they know that SimpliPhi has worked very hard to offer an installer-friendly product that is top shelf and offers quality and value to the end user. My tip is simple. The more SimpliPhi you install, the more successful you will be and the happier your customers will be.
