Director of Public Relations (Oxnard, CA)

SimpliPhi Power is seeking a Director of Public Relations with the creativity and strategic vision to build on the company’s solid reputation within industry and trade media to secure a position as a thought leader that is consistently sought after by mainstream and industry press at both national and global outlets and the company continue to accelerate growth as a recognized market leader.


  • Work with the CEO, executives, board and team leaders, develop and execute on a global strategy to build the reputation, influence and business of SimpliPhi Power that includes creative tactics, messages, channels, outcomes and measurements.
  • Help build company’s reputation and cultivate strategic relationships with industry, private and public sector partners and influencers in both existing and new markets.
  • Brainstorm, pitch and secure proactive media opportunities, op-ed placements, influencer meetings and events through mainstream and industry traditional and digital channels.
  • Research relevant media coverage and industry trends and develop thought leadership positioning, media relationships and coverage opportunities above and beyond the press release cycle.
  • Strategize, plan and execute public relations activity in connection with new product marketing announcements, corporate milestones, social impact activities and more.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with top tier key global media, industry press and financial analysts.
  • Research and pitch opportunities for CEO to speak and otherwise participate in media outlet- and analyst-affiliated thought leadership, investment and industry events.
  • Work with CEO, CFO and other MarCom team members in connection with investor relations with both existing and potential investors.
  • Oversee press events and activities across geographies, including executive media tours and events related to global projects, humanitarian efforts and corporate expansion.
  • Field incoming media inquiries quickly and proactively.
  • Author and lead the design of press materials, including media kits, op-eds, talking points, executive media interview briefs and news releases.
  • Prepare executives for media interviews with pre-interview briefs/messaging, and manage the interview process.
  • Serve as an organizational spokesperson as necessary.
  • Coordinate with SimpliPhi’s social media lead to align digital and press outreach.
  • Provide crisis communications planning, advice and support.
  • Serve as a coach and trainer for executives and professional team members in connection with interview preparedness and media relations.
  • Monitor and report on competitive position and effectiveness of the media program on a quarterly and annual basis.


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressively responsible professional experience in PR/communications or journalism.
  • Experience with renewable energy, clean technology or a comparable technical field.
  • Agency experience valued.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, analyze and interpret complex technical documents and write about complex topics in a simple, easy to understand way.
  • Demonstrated ability to both lead and tactically execute a comprehensive media program without the support of a PR team or agency.
  • Superior writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to creatively source, identify, create, secure and place compelling earned national and global media coverage.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, relationship building and coaching skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent judgment and people skills, strong attention to detail, team spirit and self-starter work ethic.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Candidates will be required to provide public relations credentials – including writing samples and references that include active media contacts.

This position will be based in our new Oxnard, CA headquarters office.
