Firmware/Software Engineer (Oxnard, CA)

This is a contract or temp to perm position for a candidate with a strong work ethic and stable work history.

Firmware/Software Engineer: Analyzes, designs, programs, debugs and modifies firmware/software; troubleshoots code for firmware (embedded code) applications. Position requires knowledge and exposure firmware/hardware integration and Windows programming. Typically programs in high-level languages (e.g., C, C++, C#) and has experience in assembly language and real-time OS’s. Reads schematics and uses test tools for firmware/hardware debugging.

Reports To: Head of Engineering
Location: Oxnard CA HQ

Primary Job Duties:

Will work with hardware and software engineers in developing new products and supporting/updating current products:

  • This is a hands-on position for a strong firmware engineering with a good understanding of embedded operating systems and experience in Windows programming.
  • Will develop firmware/software including BMS firmware, Windows applications for configuring and testing embedded systems and firmware/software for Energy Storage Systems (ESS).
  • Will be responsible for documenting and overseeing the documentation for both existing and future firmware/software.

Minimum requirements:

  • BS Software Engineering or equivalent
  • Software engineer proven ability to work with a small group of software/firmware engineers
  • Embedded programming 10yrs+ overall
  • Ability to troubleshoot embedded firmware (or hardware issues) through use of debuggers and ICE; strong debug, fault isolation and fault resolution skills
  • A working knowledge of Windows programming including MS Windows Visual Studio 2008-2012, C++, C# to be able to write applications for configuring, testing, and monitoring embedded systems.
  • GUI development experience
  • Familiarity with command and make scripting
  • Strong documentation skills

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Battery Management System (BMS) experience
  • Familiarity with IO drivers and protocols for RS485, USB, Ethernet, I2C
  • Experience with:
    • Atmel microcontrollers and tools
    • Linduino
    • ModBUS with Sunspec
    • CANbus
    • Doxygen

Sales Applications Engineer (NY Market)

The Sales Application Engineer will be responsible for directly contributing to and meeting the company’s revenue and growth goals, including monthly, quarterly and annual sales goal by identifying opportunities, establishing partnerships and winning development opportunities in the greater New York area. The SAE will have direct ownership in supporting development projects, responding to RFPs, defining and managing cross-functional revenue generating opportunities and working with regulatory and advocacy bodies to support expansion of energy storage in the NY market.

Reports To: Director, Sales and Strategic Business Development
Travel: Up to 50% of the time
Location: Greater New York City

Primary Job Duties:

  • Effectively communicate and educate all prospective and existing customers and strategic partnerships on the company’s products, solutions and advantage at conferences, trade shows, events, calls or any written communication.
  • Track, manage, update and prioritize leads and opportunities in company CRM to provide information and progress for all internal teams.
  • Solicit feedback from external and internal stakeholders on opportunities for product development, quantify opportunities and present to cross functional teams and leadership for prioritization.
  • Identify, qualify, create and initiate collaborations with appropriate external parties to provide comprehensive solutions for development projects. Create and provide customer required documentation. Utilize software tools to quantify necessary savings and performance measures.
  • Work with existing and new customers to submit all customer required documentation, including but not limited to product technical requirements, safety and material documentation, single line designs, 3D renderings, integration information and project information for applicable RFP or project documentation.
  • Consistently perform research, request information and identify markets, incentives, policies, electrical code and jurisdiction requirements that align with Company’s product offerings. Identify public and private opportunities to assist in bringing product to market. Clearly communicate opportunities with cross-functional teams and provide project charters and strategic initiatives for approval.
  • Work with governmental, regulatory organizations to facilitate rules and regulations that favor safe and non-toxic energy storage solutions.
  • Work with advocacy organizations to promote energy storage.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in a customer facing role in energy storage or other renewable energy technology, responsible for meeting and exceeding quotas and goals
  • 5+ year Professional Experience in the renewable energy industry, with preference towards energy storage specially.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Environmental Science, Business or Chemical Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working in the renewable energy or energy storage industry, in a technical sales role
  • Project management skills
  • Knowledge of global, national and state level energy and utility level policy and regulation
  • A demonstrated ability to take on additional responsibilities
  • Financial Acumen

Tech Support Specialist (Oxnard, CA)

Responsibilities:

  • Answer customers’ technical questions regarding company products, via phone and email
  • Assist customers with battery system setup and Balance of System equipment settings
  • Discuss system performance issues and concerns with customers
  • Troubleshoot system issues, coordinating with Tier 2 Tech Support to resolve
  • Collaborate with other equipment manufactures to solve integration issues and better understand potential future issues
  • Track customers’ feedback regarding products and document issues
  • Stay up-to-date with the company’s offered products and product features, as well as the latest Balance of System equipment
  • Recommend to customers appropriate products based on the specific application, outlining products’ capabilities and limitations
  • Recommend to customers appropriate battery system size and overall system design

Qualifications:

  • Experience with solar photovoltaic system design and energy storage required
  • Experience with technical support via phone and email
  • Ability to stay cool under pressure
  • Ability to independently make decisions and solve problems
  • Direct or indirect customer service experience and/or experience talking on the phone with clients required
  • Ability to remember and communicate detailed technical information clearly and accurately
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Experience with CRM or Helpdesk software
  • Energy storage installation experience a plus
  • Technical degree and/or 3 or more years of experience in the energy storage industry required

Overview:

SimpliPhi’s Tech Support Specialist provides technical support to distributors and installers working with SimpliPhi’s Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) batteries.

The role involves answering a variety of technical questions regarding battery operating parameters, appropriate Balance of System equipment, proper battery wiring, LFP battery chemistry, battery management system functionality and more.
